Liz Joyce is Director of HR with the Central Bank of Ireland since 2011 when she joined to help lead a programme of organisational transformation. The Central Bank has seen an enormous amount of change during this post crisis period, not least significant changes in leadership, culture and governance, an increase in staffing from 1,000 to 2,000 and the move to a purpose built, modern city centre campus in Dublin’s North Wall Quay.

She has worked as a change agent, leader and Human Resources professional in several organisations throughout her career encompassing the private sector, voluntary sector and more recently the public sector.

Having commenced her career in a family run international business based in Connemara where her commercial skills were developed, following a move to Dublin in 1990, she spent ten years, ultimately as HR Director, with the international development agency Concern Worldwide.

While with Concern, she led the professionalization of the HR function and contributed to the setting of international people management principles for the sector. She had the opportunity to travel to many developing countries in Asia and Africa and spent a year based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, guiding organisational development and developing HR capability there.

Returning to the private sector in 2000, she joined Diageo, initially as HR Director with United Beverages, during a period of integration and consolidation of multiple regional businesses, and in 2002, she transferred to James’ Gate where she had the opportunity to support change programmes in a global multinational environment including a global IT outsourcing programme.

Subsequently, she worked for a subsidiary of the NTR group, Greenstar, which involved the acquisition and integration of eight smaller businesses and the establishment of a corporate centre and leadership team.

This was followed by her first role in financial services with Pioneer Investments, at that time, the asset management subsidiary of Unicredit Bank. As Head of the International Division and a global business partner for support functions, she led the implementation of HR strategy for the Dublin office of 500 people from 40 different nationalities. She also played a key role in Unicredit’s management training centre in Turin.

Liz holds a BA degree in psychology from University College Galway and an MBS in Human Resources Strategies from Dublin City University. She has completed diplomas in business and finance and coaching and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. In 2017 she was admitted as a Chartered Director to the Institute of Directors in London.

Liz’s career has focussed on strategy, governance, leadership and change management, enabling and supporting organisations and individuals to achieve their goals.
