Inclusive language guidelines introduced at Greenwich council
Council staff at the Royal Borough of Greenwich have been advised against using terms like ‘ladies and gentlemen’ at events to promote more inclusive communication, The Sun reported on Monday (18 August). The 45-page booklet obtained through a freedom of information request by The Sun advises using terms such as ‘spouse’ or ‘partner’ instead of ‘husband' and 'wife’. Asking for a 'Christian name' is also advised against.
