Proofpoint expands Cork operations with new AI centre driving privacy-led cyber innovation

Proofpoint is ramping up its European growth with a significant expansion of its international hub in Cork, including the launch of a new AI innovation centre that will sharpen its capabilities in large language models and enterprise threat intelligence. 

Supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland, the investment strengthens Ireland’s position as a magnet for high-value technology projects while equipping Proofpoint with deeper specialist talent in AI, data science and cybersecurity.

At the core of the initiative is a privacy-attested AI environment designed to guarantee data anonymity and security while training advanced models. This framework will allow Proofpoint to work with larger, more complex datasets and deploy LLMs capable of handling high-velocity threat scenarios. The result is a stronger defence layer for organisations facing increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks.

CFO Remi Thomas said the Cork investment is central to the company’s international strategy, noting that AI now plays a decisive role in protecting businesses across Europe. By expanding its presence in Cork, the vendor will tap into a growing pool of technical talent to refine and scale its AI-driven solutions.

The company will immediately add 45 specialist roles, with plans to reach 100 new positions in the coming years. To support this surge, Proofpoint is expanding its physical footprint in Cork and building out functions including security operations and data security.

Ireland’s minister for enterprise, tourism and employment, Peter Burke, welcomed the expansion as further evidence of Ireland’s strength as a global innovation hub, particularly in AI and LLM development.
